Tonight is our last class for getting licensed to do foster care. It's a bitter sweet feeling. I really enjoy these classes. It makes me think a lot about myself and the kind of mother I am and I leave wanting to be better. I am amazed at what challenges these kids have to face in their lives. I am grateful for the eye opening I have received so that I may be better prepared to help and mother these children while their parents get better and fix things.
This last weekend I watched the movie Precious. I realize that most of you may never watch this show because of the rating. I chose to watch it because of the content and story line. I really feel this gave me a small insight to what some of the children in the world face day to day. The reality for them is drastically different than mine and I hope by educating and ready-ing myself I can be a good strength to them. The movie Precious has very graphic language and reality of how some people try to cheat the systems. I left this show crying my eyes out because I couldn't believe how anyone could treat another person the way this girl Precious was treated. At the end of the movie Precious leaves her mother and takes her 2 children with her that were fathered by her sexually abusive birth father. It was a very heart wrenching movie and I highly recommend seeing it at least once. Don't compromise your values if you can't handle language. The mother loves the "f" word and it is said often in this show. I wanted to punch the mother out! She made me so mad. I can see why the actress's in this movie were raved about in their acting. Monique had to go to a very dark place to play this character. She was amazingly brash, and rude and inconsiderate. I also realize that a very small majority actually act this way towards any human being.
Back to the foster parenting classes. They have been a great refresher in even my own children's development and how they cope with their past. I am so glad that we decided to do foster care again. Karlee asked if I will come home tonight from class with a baby in my tummy. What do you think? I had to really hold back on not laughing out loud at that statement! At least she has some idea of where babies come from. The kids both really want a baby to come and live with us. I hope that they aren't too disappointed when 3 or 4 year old moves in with us! And luckily the classes aren't totally over for us either. We have to take 12 hours of classes once we have licensed to keep our license current. Though this time we get to choose the 'specialty' area that we would like to learn more about which I am looking forward to. So school's out for summer and I will enjoy my free evenings with baseball practice and games. I'm also looking forward to running again. Yay for the time change! I love the longer day's, they make me happy!

the way u wrote it made it sound like precious left her kids with her mom so I want to clarify for the story's sake that she left her mother and took her two kids with her. I loved this movie too but the content was sooo heavy. This reminded me of a child called it. How someone can make it out of such horrible abuse. Amen to the acting too it was superb. Im glad you guys are fostering again. There are few people in this world cut out for it, I am not one of them but I am glad U are.
I thought about that movie all weekend and told Sean all about it when we got home. It is sad children actually get treated that bad by their own parents and thankfully the govt can step in and take them away!
It is a rough movie! You guys are so great to give these kids a safe and loving environment!
